One day, an overweight woman said to me, "I barely eat
anything and I'm gaining weight."
"What are you eating?" I asked.
"I eat three bananas a day plus a small meal, at dinner."
"What sizes are those bananas?" I inquired.
"Why?" She replied. "Does the size of the banana matter?"
It does, if you are trying to lose weight. The amount of food
energy you take in from a banana depends on its size. One
medium eight inch banana will supply you with approximately
125 calories. This may not sound like much for a single banana,
but when you calculate the calories you take in just on bananas
per week, it tells a different story.
Bananas are high in natural sugars. The body stores excess
sugar into fat. When you take in more calories than you burn,
you gain weight.
A calorie is a unit of energy.Your body needs calories for energy.
Calories come from three important nutrients; carbohydrates,
protein, and fat.
Here's how many calories in one gram.
Carbohydrates supply us with 4 calories per gram, fats with 9
calories per gram, and protein with 4 calories per gram.
If you want to lose weight, learn the caloric intake of a particular
food or drink.
Never Skip Meals to Lose Weight
Skipping meals does not make you lose weight, it makes you gain
weight. When you skip your meals, your body goes into" starvation
mode". This causes your metabolic rate to slow down, and conserve
what you eat as fat. The body stores the extra fat, in case of
starvation. As the body builds more fat, you put on more weight.
Lose Weight by Eating Less
The secret to weight loss is to eat less food. Eat 300 less calories a day.
Control the amount of food you put on your plate.
The general rule for normal portion size for cooked vegetable is 1/2 cup
(the size of a fist). The portion size for meat is 3 oz (the width of the
palm). The portion size for rice, pasta, and couscous is 1/2 cup.
A good weight loss program enables you to shed those unwanted pounds
and it teachs you good eating patterns to maintain your weight once you
reached your target.
When you eat three balanced meals a day, your body knows it will not starve,
so it burns the calories, rather than store energy as fat.
Choose foods high in natural complex carbohydrates such as fresh fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, oatmeal, and brown rice.
Eliminate unhealthy bad carbohydrates like sugar and refined starch, they
have no nutritional value and they make people gain weight. By eating less
sugar, you cut calories.
Have good fats such as monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and
omega-3 essential fatty acids such as olive oil, almonds, walnuts,
flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, and salmon.
Cut down on trans fatty acids and saturated fat, which are associated
with increased risk of heart disease and weight gain.
Eat foods that contain high quality protein such as chicken, turkey,
fish, eggs, almond butter, legumes, nuts, seeds, and leafy green
vegetables.
Once the weight drops off, don't sit around, get out and exercise. This
will keep your skin from sagging. If you never exercised before, be
realistic, start with five minutes and add one minute each day until you
are doing 30 minutes of exercise a day.

Wash all the berries the night before. Let them dry. Place them in a glass
bowel, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. When hungry take some
berries, add lemon juice and enjoy them.

10:30 a.m. have an apple or pear
Lunch:
Have a raw vegetable salad:
2 cups of mixed lettuce broken into bite-size pieces
1 cup alfalfa sprouts (optional)
1 tomato
Any raw vegetable: celery, radishes, green onions, carrots, cucumber,
broccoli, cauliflower.
Salad Dressing: 4 tablespoons of cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, 1
teaspoon of sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon of prepared mustard, a pinch of sea
salt, 1/2 teaspoon of dry oregano, 3 tablespoons of *apple cider vinegar with
mother.
*Apple cider vinegar with enzymes, called mother, is a powerful detoxification
agent.
3:00 p.m. a plain rice cake with almond butter
Dinner:
Have chicken, fish, or turkey. Roast, broil, grill, or saute.
Two steamed vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, rapini, dandelion leaves,
kale, beets, green beans, or zucchini).
Dress the vegetables with extra virgin olive oil, one sliced garlic clove, a pinch
of sea salt, and oregano.
Before bed:
Drink one cup of organic green tea.
During the day drink ginger tea.
